Memory / Dementia Care
Specializing in Resident-Centered Memory Care Through Generations
Memories are the threads that join families from one generation to the next. Stonecrest of Wildwood’s Generations program gives residents and their families the support they need for living with memory loss. Generations offers seniors with dementia opportunities to thrive.
The supportive memory care at Stonecrest of Wildwood is delivered in a kind compassionate way . . . reflective of residents’ lifestyles, routines and comfort levels. Staff engages with residents where they are, respectful of their individuality, moving in harmony with them.
Generations recognizes residents’ continued desire for dignity and individuality, a sense of belonging and opportunities for gratifying interactions with others. It draws on residents’ strengths, allows them to maintain existing abilities and fills gaps in life skills with an appropriate level of assistance.
The specially trained team members receive continuing education in “best practices” of dementia care. They use appropriate, progressive techniques, memory cues, verbal and non-verbal communications to redirect and reorient residents. They understand and respond compassionately to residents’ behaviors and changing abilities.
While the reality of memory loss may be difficult, Generations Memory Care at Stonecrest of Wildwood helps build on the best memories possible for residents and their families. It allows residents to enjoy simple things in life – connecting and sharing precious moments.

Our residents with dementia have emotions that are often difficult to express due to cognitive impairments in language, memory and executive function.
Stonecrest of Wildwood has designed connection kits that consist of a collection of tactile, auditory and visual tools that will provide our residents an opportunity for cognitive stimulation, perceptual processing, as well as focused and intentional dialogue between our residents and their loved ones.
INNOVATIVE RELAXATION PROGRAM
Our Generations program incorporates aromatherapy, essential oils and healing touch, which are relaxation techniques to enhance the lives of our residents. We also enjoy pet therapy, as it is well-known and scientifically proven that interaction with gentle, friendly pets has significant benefits.
A support group is an open gathering of people who come together to share their feelings, thoughts and experiences in a combined effort to better cope with and manage the shared problems of dementia in a safe environment . Stonecrest of Wildwood will hold support group meetings to provide emotional, social and educational support for family members and caregivers.
ENHANCING MEMORY THROUGH ART
This is a unique program that allows persons with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia – like residents who live in our Generations Memory Care – to express themselves through art.
During the process of creating artwork, our residents speak to us, offering the essence of themselves. The loss of language does not mean the loss of a desire to express oneself!
Stonecrest of Wildwood will utilize the Teepa Snow techniques. As one of America’s leading educators on dementia, we have embraced Teepa Snow’s philosophy which is reflective of her education, work experience, available medical research, and first hand caregiving interactions. Working as a Registered Occupational Therapist for over 30 years, her wealth of experience has led her to develop “Positive Approach to Care.” Teepa’s care strategies and techniques integrate what is known about brain function and changes that happen with memory care. She teaches about the value of connection when primary verbal communication and interaction abilities are altered. Teepa’s philosophy is simple, “Respond to the emotion, not the behavior!”
MUSIC AND MEMORY
Stonecrest of Wildwood will be certified in “Music and Memory:’ We are part of a National Research Initiative, designed to focus on the musical aptitude and the musical appreciation for our residents with Alzheimer ‘s and memory loss. These two abilities have been shown to remain long after other abilities have passed. Music is an excellent way to reach beyond the disease and reach the person.
